January 15 - 19th Updates and Reminders...

Dear K-PM Parents,

This week was our last week with the help of our wonderful EA, Mrs. Cotton! So, yesterday we surprised her with a little «Aurevoir!» song and presented her with a Thank you card (& a little Starbucks gift card)!! Merci beaucoup Mme Cotton! Best wishes in your new career! We gave her a big Thank You Hug too!!

In Français, we worked on reading, writing, and listening to rhyming words in our winter poems!  We circled them using a highlighter, then we would reread our poems together.  We listened to different stories, «en Français» during story time and talked about winter themed words.

During our centre time, I've been working with each student 1-1, to give them some IDI (Individual Direct Instruction) to meet their greatest needs.  This included strengthening fine motor skills, printing their name, reading in French to identifying sight words and theme words, counting, etc.

We are starting learning centre time, which are based on Français reading, Math concepts: identifying numbers: 1-10, Science activities and fine motor skills. In these learning centres, «Les centres d'hiver» (which will be themed based) will be done in small groups, that I have formed, and we will rotate everyday. During each centre, I will assign a specific "job" for each child, in order to learn to work cooperatively in a group. We will have the following jobs: Captain/ «le Chef», Gopher/«Chercheur de matériel», and Timer/«le Garde-temps». This is the first time I will be trying this at a kindergarten level, so I'm hoping it works!!  I will let you know as the weeks progress...

January 8 -12th Updates and Reminders

Dear K-PM Parents,

Our return to school from Winter Break has been exciting! However, it is with mixed feelings that we say good-bye to our wonderful Educational Assistant.  On Friday, January 19th, it will be her last day, as she ventures off to explore a new career opportunity. Thank you for helping our Kinders in becoming more and more independent in such a kind and gentle manor.  Congratulations Mrs. Cotton! We will miss you!!

Benefits of Reading Daily

Dear K-PM Parents,

As we continue to learn in our kindergarten adventure, I see a change happening in our daily reading routines.  The children's attention span has increased, their vocabulary in Français has also increased, they are starting to read our little Français books independently!

As part of the divisional literacy goals, Pembina Trails School Division and the City of Winnipeg Libraries, have teamed up to offer all Kindergarten students the opportunity to have his/her own library card. Once the forms have been filled and returned, each child will receive his/her very own City of Winnipeg library card, book bag, 2 free books, a guide with all City Library locations and a letter explaining the program to parents! Please see photo below...

I encourage all families to participate, even if your family already uses the library services. This is a wonderful opportunity to promote reading skills, other than home or school:)

Thank you for your time in filling out the forms,

Merci!

Happy New Year!!

It's been a week since we've been on our Winter break! I hope everyone is enjoying their family time together. I want to thank all of my kindergarten families for the beautiful and thoughtful gifts you gave me for Christmas! I have had a wonderful time teaching our great little group of four & five year olds in 2017!

I look forward to working with your children in 2018, as we prepare the students for grade one!

I will be adding a few more posts as we get closer to our return to school on Monday, January 8th!

Talk to you soon and keep warm!

      Warm regards 💕,
       Muriel
